Mallison Falls Dam, looking from just above spillway, Presumpscot
River, Windham, Maine. July, 2000. This extremely low-power and old dam
is located five miles upriver from the Saccarappa
Falls Dam, which begins impounding the river just around the bend in this
photo. Like Saccarappa,b the Mallison Falls dam has also been targeted for
removal by FOSL, Friends of the Presumpscot River, Maine Council of the
Atlantic Salmon Federation, Sebago Chapter of Trout Unlimited, and American
Rivers

Looking downstream from the Mallison Falls dam at the point where the
Saccarappa Falls Dam impoundment begins to flood the Presumpscot River and
drown its natural riffles and rapids. The construction of nine dams on the
Presumpscot River, most owned by the SAPPI paper company, has eliminated
nearly all of the river's rapids and riffles and destroyed critical habitat
for its native Atlantic salmon and other species.
